Training at Torquay Leander

Structured coaching for every ability — from first strokes to competition squads. We train at Swim Torquay and travel to Plymouth's 50m pool to give our competitive swimmers race-distance experience.

All abilities welcome 5+ sessions per week 50m pool access via Plymouth Free trial session

Our Squads

Find Your Level

We run a clear squad pathway from first-time swimmers through to our performance competition team. Every swimmer is assessed and placed in the right environment to thrive.

Starters
Ages 5 – 7

Learn to Swim / Starters

Building water confidence, basic stroke technique and a love for swimming in a safe, fun environment.

1–2 sessions / week
Junior Development
Ages 8 – 12

Junior Development

Refining all four strokes, building fitness and getting first competitive experience at club galas and the Devon Mini League.

2–3 sessions / week
Performance Squad
Ages 12+

Performance Squad

High-intensity structured training targeting county qualifying times, open meets and regional competition. Includes Plymouth 50m sessions.

4–5 sessions / week
Masters
Adults

Masters / Adult Fitness

Coached sessions for adult swimmers focused on fitness, technique and enjoyment. All abilities welcome — complete beginners to ex-club swimmers returning to the water.

Home Pool

Swim Torquay

Our home pool is Swim Torquay — a modern, well-maintained facility in central Torquay. All regular weekly sessions are held here across the week.

Long Course Training

Plymouth 50m Sessions

Torquay doesn't have a 50m pool — so we take our competitive swimmers to Plymouth. These extended long-course sessions are a core part of preparing for county and regional competition, where all races are held over 50m.

Early Sunday MorningsSessions run on Sunday mornings with an early start — giving swimmers a full 2 hours in the water and the rest of the day free.

2 Hours in a Full 50m PoolA dedicated 2-hour coached slot in a competition-standard long-course pool. Swimmers experience real race distances — vital preparation for county championships and open meets.

Performance Squad FocusThese sessions are primarily for Performance Squad swimmers working toward county qualifying times or competing at regional level.
🚗
Club-Coordinated TravelSessions are planned and communicated through the club. Speak to your coach to be added to the Plymouth session schedule.

Senior Coach — All Squads

Leads the overall programme and coaches our Performance Squad. Certified to Swim England Level 3 standard with extensive competitive swimming experience.

Specialises in technique development for younger swimmers, guiding the pathway from Learn to Swim through to first competitions.

Adult & Masters Sessions

Runs our adult sessions with a focus on technique, fitness and enjoyment. Experienced working with swimmers returning to the sport at any age.

What You'll Need

Training Kit

Here's what swimmers need to bring to training sessions. Your coach can advise on club-branded kit once you've joined.

Swimsuit / Jammers

A well-fitting training swimsuit. Club-branded suits are available once you join — ask your coach about ordering.

Goggles

A good pair of fitting goggles is essential. Bring a spare pair if you have one.

Swimming Cap

Required for all sessions. Club caps are available. A silicone cap is recommended for longer-haired swimmers.

Kit Bag & Water Bottle

Bring a dedicated kit bag and a water bottle — staying hydrated during training is important even in the pool!

For Plymouth 50m Sessions

Same kit as above, plus warm layers for the early morning travel. Your coach will notify you of departure points and times.
